Retrofitting and recommissioning for syngas applications
Application | Compression of synthesis gas for gas engines
Country | Netherlands
Challenge
An existing reciprocating compressor was originally designed for compressing natural gas. To enable its use with synthesis gas, the system had to be adapted to meet new requirements and commissioned safely.
Solution
Through a targeted retrofit, an existing compressor can be adapted to new gas types and applications.
In doing so, all relevant components are designed to meet the new operating conditions in order to ensure safe and reliable operation.
Implementation in the Netherlands
A second-hand piston compressor was retrofitted for use with synthesis gas. The Mehrer Service Team carried out the necessary modifications and successfully recommissioned the plant.
In doing so, they ensured that the entire process, including the downstream gas engine, functions reliably and can be operated stably.
Results
- Successful conversion to synthesis gas
- Recommissioning of the existing plant
- Reliable operation of the entire system
- Extended service life of the existing equipment
