Air separation for the production of industrial gases using reciprocating compressors
Application | Air separation
Country | Germany
Challenge
The production of industrial gases such as nitrogen and oxygen places high demands on pressure, purity and process stability. Maintaining very low dew points and ensuring a reliable supply of pressure across the entire operating range are particularly critical.
Solution
Reciprocating compressors compress the process air and ensure stable pressure conditions.
Mehrer relies on high-performance compressors that operate reliably even under demanding conditions and allow for precise adaptation to the process.
Implementation in Germany
In an air separation plant, Mehrer boosters are used to further compress the compressed air from an existing network. This increases the pressure from 5.5 bar to up to 30 bar.
A particular challenge was maintaining a dew point below minus 100 degrees Celsius. Stable and efficient operation was ensured through the coordinated design of the components and a bespoke control system.
Results
- Stable operation at very low dew points
- Reliable pressure increase up to 30 bar
- High process reliability
- Energy-efficient plant control
