Hydrogen refuelling for public transport bus fleets

Solution | Diaphragm compressor
Application | Compression of hydrogen for H₂ bus fleets
Country | Germany

Challenge
Operating a fleet of hydrogen buses requires the establishment of a dedicated refuelling infrastructure that ensures reliable and continuous operation. Availability, refuelling speed and system stability play a key role in this.

Solution
Diaphragm compressors compress the delivered hydrogen and make it available for storage and refuelling.

The compressor solution is designed to reliably support the daily operation of the refuelling station and ensure a consistent supply.

Implementation in Germany
As part of an infrastructure project, a hydrogen refuelling station was built for a bus fleet. The delivered hydrogen is transferred from trailers and compressed to the required pressure level.

The diaphragm compressor used brings the hydrogen up to 480 bar and stores it in storage systems from which the buses can be refuelled efficiently. This ensures smooth daily operations.

Results

  • Reliable supply of hydrogen to the bus fleet
  • Efficient compression and storage
  • High availability of the refuelling station infrastructure
  • Stable operation in daily use
